Night Time Dune Walk, Cumbria
05/05/2023
8:45pm - Late
Free
Experience the sand dunes on a night time walk, and help monitor natterjack toads, one of the UK’s rarest and most charismatic creatures.
Join Holly Stainton, Engagement Officer for Dynamic Dunescapes, at sunset for a night time guided walk on the dunes to learn about the natterjack toad. Experience their unique chorus across the dune systems as we record the adult populations.
Please bring a torch and spare batteries, warm clothes and clean sturdy boots or wellies (to avoid spread of any invasive species). The walk will be on uneven ground up to 2 miles long.
Natterjacks are a rare and protected species, it is against the law to disturb natterjack toads or their habitat. The walk will be led by a license holder.
Natterjacks are quite particular about when they like to make an appearance, and we can’t always guarantee sightings (although we’ve been working hard to improve their habitats and breeding sites)! Please also note they sometimes aren’t active until gone 10:30 pm. If the weather is unsuitable, the walk may be postponed or brought forwards for best chance of seeing them. You will be notified at the start of the week of any changes made.
