Throughout the course of the Dynamic Dunescapes project, we're delighted to have worked closely with a wide range for schools.
We've involved 660 teaching staff and 6,100 pupils. 462 pupils have worked towards their John Muir Award with us, and over 600 educators have been part the 48 teacher training events that we've held.

1. Primary School Sand Dune Activity Pack
This activity pack for primary schools has taken an active approach to learning about sand dunes, in the sand dunes.
2. An Introduction to Sand Dunes: Lesson PowerPoint presentations with accompanying notes
These introductory presentations have been curated for different key stage classes and are available to download and use free of charge below. Presentations explore the species that live in sand dunes, how they are adapted to survive in dune habitats, how human interactions physical processes with these species and landscapes and ecology, and touch on the role of sand dunes in history. Class interaction and discussion activities are included.

3. Dynamic Dunescapes Education Enquiry: Sand dune rejuvenation and natural dune dynamics

4. 'Dune Battle' - a top trumps-style game teaching succession and species identification
Co-created with Biology Teacher Jon Hale, Dune Battle is a Top Trumps-style activity designed to tackle teaching biodiversity in the dunes through gameplay. It is ideally suited for KS4-5 biology and geography students, and can assist in learning species identification in the classroom prior to field trips and practical projects.

5. Species fact files and conservation case studies
We have created a series of species fact files and case studies for some of the most important creatures that live in Cumbria's sand dunes. These fact files teach students about the species, but also about the issues that they face as the dune system changes, and the practical land management techniques that we're using to engineer better habitats for them.
These are useful for KS3-4 biology / geography students.
Species include: Natterjack Toad (Epidalea calamita), Dune Heleborine (Epipactis dunensis), Northern Dune Tiger Beetle (Cicindela hybrida), Rabbit (oryctolagus cuniculus).
6. Teacher Training Webinars
These workshop were delivered in March 2023 by the Dynamic Dunescapes team on the Sefton Coast. It contains an introduction to dune ecology and the threats and opportunities that are involved in sand dune conservation, as well as the education resources that Dynamic Dunescapes can provide KS1 & KS2, and KS3 & 4 educators. The team also have advice on planning your class trips to the dunes.
