Discover important sand dunes around Morecambe Bay and the Cumbrian coast and how they are being restored for people and wildlife
Join Eve Mullholland from Cumbria Wildlife Trust as she shares the story of the sand dunes around the Cumbrian coast and the Dynamic Dunescapes project which aims to restore the dunes and make them healthier habitats for nature and for the local community.
Dunes are important biodiversity hot-spots and often a sanctuary for rare species which are perfectly adapted to live in sand. At a healthy dune, you could find orchids, toads, birds and lizards. However some of these species are at risk.
Over time, many dunes have become covered by grass and scrub which have over-stabilised the sand, and invasive species have overtaken native ones. Eve will explain the work underway to make the dunes more dynamic and how the Wildlife Trust is working to improve the environment through community participation to support its diverse wildlife through pioneering conservation techniques.
